Cara Technology wins 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise

Screen Shot 2016-04-21 at 09.05.07Leatherhead 21 April 2016 – Drinks industry specialist, Cara Technology Limited, has won the 2016 Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the category of International Trade. The firm received the award in recognition of an eight-fold growth in its overseas sales during the past six years. Close to 90% of the company’s turnover now derives from outside its home market, a figure on par with that of the Scotch whisky industry.

The Surrey-based company is a trusted partner of the makers of many of the world’s most iconic beers, including Grolsch, Peroni, Duvel, and Punk IPA.

Yeast cultures supplied to breweries from the company’s ISO 9001-accredited Leatherhead laboratories are used to make 25% of the world’s beer, in places as far afield as the USA, Columbia, Peru, Brazil, Australia, Russia, Germany, Tanzania, Nigeria, Vietnam, Japan and China. Their AROXA™ Certified Flavour Standards and SensCheck™ Sensory Management software, all of which are developed, manufactured, quality assured and distributed from the company’s UK base, are used to train thousands of professional tasters in a variety of industries. This ensures that brewers, cider makers, wine makers, distillers, manufacturers of soft drinks, and suppliers of both bottled water and tap water, release only the best-tasting products to the market.

The company’s specialist consultants and trainers also play an important role in helping these same companies develop and improve their products, and minimize the impact of occasional production problems on consumers.

Cara Technology is one of only 243 firms to win a Queen’s Award for Enterprise this year. They are in good company. Other winners include construction equipment specialist JCB, insurance giant AXA PPP, and shirt maker Charles Tyrwhitt.

Speaking of the award, Cara Technology Founder and Managing Director, Dr Bill Simpson said: “This is the award every British company wants to win. The Queen’s Award for Enterprise is widely regarded as the highest honour that can be bestowed on a British company. The awards are made annually by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, on the advice of the Prime Minister, who in turn is advised by an expert committee. This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise and coincides with Her Majesty’s 90th birthday.
